About Aurora Turners

Our Turner Family History

From our earliest beginnings in 1858, the Aurora Turners (a.k.a. Turnverein Frisch-Auf) has been a place whose members could meet and share a common goal of friendship and lifestyle within our national motto, “A Sound Mind in a Sound Body.”

Aurora Turners was founded with 15 members 165 years ago and at various times included as many as 2800 members. The Aurora society has survived eight different wars, often financial hardship, has been in six different locations, and has had some great times as well as times that were not so great.

Through all of this, from the distant past when the German language was spoken, minutes of meetings were kept in German and ethnic traditions were celebrated, Aurora Turners has maintained a social atmosphere in which the entire family continues to share gemuetlichkeit (warmth, friendliness and good cheer) while enjoying our social, athletic and cultural functions. It has always been a place shared by our youth, parents and grandparents with activities for men and women of all ages.

Today, with all of our current activities, including American Turners national events, multiple different sports leagues, special events throughout the year, food served at the club from Tuesday through Saturday, and kids’ parties, there is something for everyone at Aurora Turners!
